John Edmund Strandberg was born in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1911. He began art making at an early age, and acquired a master's degree in Cabinet Making in 1930. He emigrated to Canada in 1951, settling in Toronto, Ontario. There he joined the Art Guild of York-Scarborough and studied under artists like Thomas Frederick Haig Chatfield and Arnold Benjamin Hodgkins. Strindberg genially painted in oils with a palette knife technique, often plein air. He exhibited widely across Canada and internationally, and his works can be found in the Art Gallery of Ontario, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and the National Gallery of Canada. John Strandberg died in 1996, in Ontario.
