JOHN ATTOK (1906-1980)
ARVIAT, Two Figures, mid-late 1960s
Grey stone, 4 x 1.125 x 1.75 in, 10.0 x 2.9 x 4.4 cm Signed in syllabics
This is a fine example of how a small work of Inuit sculpture can project an air of monumentality and tremendous emotional power. Its theme is reminiscent of Elisapee Kanangnaq Ahlooloo's famous "Son Leading Father to Die" of 1961 (WAG, The Jerry Twomey Collection, 2003, p. 60; Swinton 1965, p. 87). In style it more closely resembles the work of Tiktak.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
