Literature:
Nancy Tousley, Joe Fafard: The Bronze Years, The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, November 21, 1996-February 16, 1997, cat.no. 22, page 51, illustrated in colour.
Notes:
Fafard’s depictions of legendary artist figures are effigies that connect the past to the present. In The Opening, the artist portrays a younger Picasso through a glass window which acts as a threshold between the subject and the viewer. Nancy Tousley writes that whether human or animal subjects, the artist’s “…figures look outward as though contemplating or responding to the presence of the viewer.” In The Opening, Fafard captures more than Picasso’s physiognomy, but also something of his spirit.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
