Jan Kavan was born in 1947 in Zlin, Czechoslovakia. In 1966 graduated from Secondary School of Applied Arts, Prague. In 1972 graduated from College of Applied Arts, Prague. From 1997 to 1998 worked as a teacher in Secondary School of Applied Arts. He uses the traditional techniques of etching and aquatint.He often cuts etched plates into various forms of figures, animals or their individual parts, then arranges them into surprising color compositions.
