JAMASEE MIKE (1928-d)

PANGNIRTUNG, Head of a Woman, ca. 1964

Black stone, 8.25 x 6 x 6.5 in, 21 x 15.2 x 16.5 cm Mounted a Lucite base

Signed "JAMESEE MIKE" and with disc no.

(inscriptions partially obscured by labels)

Provenance: Purchased by Charles Gimpel. Exhibited at Gimpel Fils Gallery, London, England. Notes from Gimpel Fils indicate that this head is a portrait of a qallunaaq (woman of European descent).

This supremely elegant work seems less a portrait and more an idealized portrayal of female beauty. The sculpture exudes timelessness and universality; one can almost imagine it having been carved in any of a number of eras and cultures.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
