ARTIST STATEMENT

---

When starting an artwork I start with dreamlike and surreal images. The early stages are usually small sketches, feelings or ideas. The work itself develops further as I begin working on it on a larger scale.

An underlying theme that reoccurs in all of my work is that of romantic and ideal union with the natural world and animals. This is something that is conflicting and contrasting in our contemporary impact on the environment.

The overall process of drawing is what intrigues me the most. The images come as puzzle pieces are and placed together to create a surreal scene or feeling. The images I create are like vessels that allow me to connect and communicate to the world. In the painting Burst I have used free flowing and overlapped paint in natural spring shades. Contrasting that the birds and branches are represented in a white contained silhouette. Overall I am hoping the color scheme and imagery will remind us of the beauty that can be found within nature and the outdoors.. Due to my great love and regard for animals and nature, I imagine a place where humans and nature work in tandem. Furthermore creating a place of great understanding and mutual respect.
