Isaac Bignell was born in The Pas, Manitoba in 1958 and grew up on the Opaskwayak Cree First Nation. In his teens he moved to Winnipeg, and later lived in Minneapolis, MN, and Vancouver, British Columbia. Bignell was largely self taught, and developed a style of sponge painting with flowing lines. He was also a very active hoop dancer and drummer/singer. Isaac Bignell died in Traverse City, Michigan, in1996 from a concussion after a fall.
