Hugh Blackman studied art in Saskatchewan with Mcgregor Hone and Molly Lawrence, then at Emily Carr University of Art and Design (Vancouver) and Simon Fraser University (Burnaby) where he completed a Bachelor of Education (1988) and Master of Education (1993). He resides in Vancouver, where he teaches and is a children's art instructor.
