Herman J. Friesen was born in a Mennonite village northeast of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He specializes in depicting the prairie landscape and wildlife with oil on canvas. A particular interest in small towns and grain elevators led to the publication of the book Saskatchewan Sentinels A to Z in 2020, featuring Friesen's paintings of grain elevators. Herman Friesen recently moved to the town of Springside, Saskatchewan, and continues to paint prairie scenes.
