ABOUT THE ARTIST

Herménégilde Chiasson is a Canadian artist, writer, playwright, and filmmaker recognized for his contributions to Acadian culture.

He holds degrees from the Université de Moncton, Mount Allison University, Université de Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne), and the State University of New York. His work spans poetry, theatre, visual arts, and film, with notable publications like Mourir à Scoudouc (1974) and Conversations (1998).

Chiasson has exhibited widely and directed films exploring Acadian identity. He served as New Brunswick’s 29th Lieutenant Governor (2003–2009) and is a professor at the Université de Moncton. His achievements have been recognized with appointments to the Order of Canada and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
