Helen Stevenson Oleskiw was born Helen Wolfe in Kranzberg, Poland in 1919. In 1928 the family emigrated to Canada and settled in Killdeer, Saskatchewan, near the US border southwest of Regina. In 1944 she married Louis Stevenson. After her husband's death she married Bruno Oleskiw. Helen Oleskiw earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at age 65.
