George Ogilvy Reid was born in 1851 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He worked as an engraver before studying at the Trustee's Academy in Edinburgh (now the Edinburgh College of Art) after which we became renowned as a painter of Scottish genre and historical scenes. He was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy, and in 1891 Queen Victoria commissioned Reid to paint a depiction of her grandson's christening at Balmoral Castle. George Ogilvy Reid died in Edinburgh in 1920.
