Acquired directly from the Artist in Colombo, Sri Lanka, by the Collection of Michael Ondaatje, during the mid 1970s

Notes:
A photograph by Lionel Wendt (1900 - 1944), "Degaldoruwa Rock Temple, Kandy," is included with this lot.
The inscription on the Wendt photograph reads, "Wall-painting in inner shrine or image room. The painting has been almost completely defaced through damp resulting from cracks in the rock ‘ceiling’. This portion of the wall receives no light from the doorway (frame and lintel seen at left of print). The photograph was taken by electric torch light. A 5-cell torch with muslin diffuser was used, the light being ‘painted’ on to the subject with slow vertical and horizontal movement, the ‘exposure’ thus given being about 2 minutes, t9, 23° Sch. Film."
