This original work created for the 2008 Aimee Mann album @#%&*! Smilers was nominated for a Grammy award in 2009.
Drawing his inspiration from vintage comics and advertising art Gary Taxali is an award winning artist and illustrator whose work has been exhibited and published internationally. With clients including The New York Times, Rolling Stone, GQ and Time magazine, Taxali has been a recipient of numerous awards including a Grammy Award nomination for the album art for Aimee Mann’s 2008 recording @#%&*! Smilers. In addition, Taxali sits on numerous boards including the National Magazine Awards, the Magazine of Contemporary Illustration and the Stamp Advisory Committee for Canada Post. Most recently, Taxali was commissioned to design a set of coins for The Royal Canadian Mint. In 2005 he launched the first of a series of vinyl toys and was commissioned by the Whitney Museum of American Art to create an original silkscreen. According to critic Steven Heller his style has the “goal of communicating the ironies and comical essence of popular culture.” Taxali lives and works in Toronto.
