Notes:
Garry Newton was born York, England, 1939. He immigrated with his family to Medicine Hat, Alberta, in 1948. He studied science at the University of Alberta (Edmonton) and completed his degree in Zoology at the University of Melbourne, Australia. After receiving his degree, and traveling for some time, Newton settled in Calgary, Alberta, and began creating etchings and engravings, for which he received a major Canada Council Grant in 1958. Later in life, Newton returned to Medicine Hat,, where he taught drawing classes at Medicine Hat College. Newton's work can be found in many public collections, including Medicine Hat College, Calgary Public Library, University of Alberta (Edmonton), Medicine Hat Museum and Art Gallery, and the National Library of Canada. Garry Newton died in 2008 in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
