Exhibitions:
58th Annual Exhibition, Ontario Society of Artists, Art Gallery of Toronto, 1930.

Literature:
Kevin Forrest, The Paintings of Frederick Nicholas Loveroff, Regina, 1981, page 11.
Notes:
An early command of the watercolour medium earned Loveroff a scholarship to the Ontario College of Art in Toronto where, between 1913 and 1917, he was taught by George Reid, J. W. Beatty and J.E.H. MacDonald. Winter landscapes such as this impressive large-scale composition would be exhibited at the Ontario Society of Artists and the Royal Canadian Academy of Art. Forrest notes that Loveroff’s “method of using dark outlines with corresponding areas of bright, flat colour [was] distinctive.” The trees and vast, frozen lake display this signature brushwork while the sunset sky is developed magnificently by energetic masses of mauve and peach tones. “Winter Landscape” communicates the artist’s close observation of nature and gifted colour sense and suggests the influence that lake landscapes by artists Lismer and MacDonald may have had on Loveroff’s own artistic expression.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
