Lot description - from the online catalogue*

Provenance:
Private Collection, Vancouver
Notes:
Paintings by Frederick Loveroff (1894-1959) do not appear on the market frequently enough to satisfy demand, particularly the larger canvases like this lot. Loveroff's career spanned just slightly over fifteen years, then abruptly stopped short.

While his paintings of Toronto and environs are familiar to many, this grand work is not a Toronto subject but rather likely depicts Cleveland, where the artist spent a considerable amount of time visiting his wife who worked there while he was still living in Toronto. Regardless of the specificity of locale, the subject has much in common with the gritty urban scenes other artists - American, John Sloan, or Lawren Harris and Peter Sheppard - were also doing at this time.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
