Notes:
Francis Swaine, an English marine painter, completed a number of paintings modelled on a set of engravings of Canadian views by Hervey Smyth in 1762 or 1763. Smyth, a topographer and Captain in the British army, was Lieut. Gen. James Wolfe's aide-de-camp, and fought alongside him during the Battle of Quebec in 1759. Smyth later returned to England with Wolfe's body.
