Using simplified shapes, artist Frances Semple reveals the emotive essence of movement in this bronze sculpture of a walking woman. At 45 inches high, the figure is about three-quarters life size. The sculpture is inscribed by the artist with initials and edition number, 1/9. The concrete base measures 12 x 21 x 37 inches. Together, base and sculpture are about 500lbs. Canadian sculptor Frances Semple studied sculpture and mold making at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, with further studies in Florence and Edinburgh. She holds a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Known for her figurative work, Semple works in bronze and other metals. She has exhibited in Canada, and major US cities including Chicago, New York and San Francisco.
