Francis Douglas Motter (1913-1993) was born in Chicago but moved to Calgary, Alberta with his family in 1918. Douglas spent a lifetime in the arts as a watercolourist, weaver and instructor. He was a Founding Member and President of the Calgary Allied Arts Council; President of the Alberta Society of Artists; Member of the University of Calgary senate and instructor in weaving, design, drawing and watercolour in the fabric-metal department at the Alberta College of Art (Calgary), then called S.A.I.T.
