ETIDLOOIE ETIDLOOIE (1911-1981)

CAPE DORSET, Nude Kneeling Woman, early 1970s

Light brown stone

16.75 x 8.75 x 9.5 in, 42.5 x 22.2 x 24.1 cm

Signed "ETIDLOIE" and with disc no.

Provenance: Purchased from the artist by the current owner.

Etidlooie was a brilliant draughtsman, yet only a handful of prints designed by him were ever released; his drawings were considered to be too subtle or complex. The 500 or so drawings Etidlooie produced between 1974 and his death in 1981 rival Pudlo's in choice of subject matter and technique. Jean Blodgett curated an retrospective exhibition of his work at the London Regional Art Gallery in 1984. Etidlooie was also a talented sculptor. This unusual and excellent work should be seen in the wider context of his artistic experimentation.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
