ARTIST STATEMENT

---

My name is Erin McCoy. I am a first year student at the Alberta College of Art and Design. I've always had a passion for art, and this piece has inspired me in more ways than just one. My dad has been my number one supporter and tends to double as my backbone when it comes to my art. He has always worked very hard to be able to give me a wonderful life, and does whatever he can to make ends meet, even in the most difficult situations. My dad is an oilfield operator, employed by Encana. Since I was born he has been in the oilfield industry and it has given him and my family the life we have today, and that was my inspiration for this piece. A mans hands tell a thousand stories. Oil on Hands represents my dad's passion for what he does, and beyond that, his love for his family. The dirt underneath his nails and within the cracks of his hands represent hard work, and the vibrancy of the colors within the oil on his hands represents him supporting my love for art. If it weren't for my dad, I would not be where I am today.
