ARTIST STATEMENT

When I had been working on my piece Today's Weather, Tomorrow's News', the catastrophic events in Japan had just occurred. The effects of the earthquake affected many friends of mine, so it caused me to think more about the events than I think about any other. This led me to consider how simple things like weather can become the headlines in the next day's newspapers. Rain causing floods, plough winds tearing down buildings, earthquakes ripping apart entire countries. The thoughts of it all led me to realize how fortunate I have been to be born in a country like Canada, where any events caused by weather are rarely life threatening.

As I created my piece, which was initially inspired by the clash of cityscape and mountain range, a scene which you can see from any tall building in Calgary, so long as you face West. I never imagined that creating an abstraction of this fascinating view would lead me to see the whole world in a different way, and change the way I see how the world is connected. The meaning of my painting shifted, just as the world does, to a new meaning, bringing me to this piece Today's Weather, Tomorrow's News'.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
