ARTIST STATEMENT
When I created this piece I wanted to paint a contemporary, and relatively abstract, work that still had a sense of form and identifiable elements.
I have chosen 'Disparity' for the title of my piece as it shows the great contrast between the mountains, in the painting, and the body of water. The mountains have structure and are seemingly immovable; they give a sense of stability and grandeur which I feel is prominent in the building The Bow itself. The water in the painting is representative of change and has a sense of energy. This change can be related to the creation and completion of the Bow which, in future, will create several positive changes in the City of Calgary.
The theme of disparity can also relate to the concept of man-made structures versus natural ones. I chose to create this painting also to show the relationship between the Bow and the natural world it looks out on. Although disparity is evident in the painting, there is also a sense of congruity between the mountains and water. They interact with each other in harmony, and I have tried to capture this idea through my use of colour and technique, using a similar brush stroke and colour palette on the mountains as on the lake.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
