Douglas R. Laird was born in Edinburgh Scotland in 1946. As a youth he apprenticed with an advertising and design studio, and attended the Edinburgh College of Art. He emigrated to Canada in 1965, settling in Ontario. He continues to live and work in southern Ontario.
