ARTIST STATEMENT
In my practice as a abstract painter moving towards photography, I am particularly interested in art therapy, art therapy is seen as an opportunity to express one's self imaginatively, authentically, and spontaneously, an experience that over time, can lead to personal fulfillment, emotional reparation, and recovery. Art therapy is about the process of making art and is often related to one's personal experiences.
Through the usage of materials such as beeswax, resin, ink, acrylic and oil paint on large-scale canvases, it gives me the room to use my materials expressively and spontaneously making it about the moment of the process of the work and not so much focused on a picture. Going through stages of making abstract work and trying to find what one does and why, has led me to thoughts of chains of events and how incidents and history transfer from one family member to another. Relating those chains of events to people of small towns and rural areas.
I believe that as an artist it is our job to notice the culture around us and to speak of our own experiences in our life with integrity and depth. Ones ability to achieve this as an artist allows others to connect to it. From there, make connections to their own experiences and observations.
