Dermot Louison was born in Woodbrook, Trinidad in 1933. He developed as an artists at an early age, and moved to England in 1956 to study at the Sir John Cass School of Art in London (1957-1959). Life in London did not suit the young artist, who longed to be an open-air painter exploring the forests and villages of his native Trinidad, and he returned to the island in 1959. There, Louison developed a large body of work and exhibited widely throughout the Caribbean. Trinidad and Tobago Art Society past president Petter Sheppard has described Louison's work as similar to that of Norman Rockwell, observing and documenting 'the quirks of our daily lives'. Dermot Louison died in 2022 at the age of 89. His artworks can be found in several permanent collections including the Art Museum of the Americas (Washington) and the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago.
