Lot description - from the online catalogue*
Provenance:
This piece includes a 2021 appraisal from Susan Whitney Art Appraisals Inc with a value indicated of $350. From the University of Regina, President's Art Collection, Shumiatcher Donation. Collection of Dr. Morris C. Shumiatcher, O.C., S.O.M., Q.C. and Dr. Jacqui Clay Shumiatcher, O.C., S.O.M.
Notes:
David Wong was born in China in 1935. His older brother was an experience carver of ivory. David Wong paid his way through law school by creating carvings, but upon graduation turned his attention entirely to art making. In 1971 he was invited to Canada to take part in a cross-country Jade carving demonstration. He remained in Vancouver, in part because of the proximity to the plentiful jade found in British Columbia, much of which is exported to China. David Wong died in 1998.
