This large hand-blown sculpted vase is from the Face Vases series, made of blown glass with sandblasted and acid-polished glass, and multicoloured vitreous enamel, signed in needle point. The series consists of 196 different vases made between 1988 and 1997.
Dan Dailey is an American artist whose innovative work with glass has left a significant mark on the contemporary art world with creations that captivate viewers through their beauty and complexity. Dailey earned his master of fine arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and became a professor at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston, where he founded the Glass department in 1973. Highly involved in the field of education, Dailey has taught at numerous institutions, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Rhode Island School of Design the Pilchuck Glass School, and the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and he has lectured across the United States, Europe and Japan.
Dailey’s sculptural and installation work is distinguished by his inventive use of glassblowing, fusing and molding techniques, combining elegance with innovation. His pieces often play with the transparency and colour of glass, creating visual effects that seem to evolve as light passes through them. His creations transform everyday objects into sophisticated works of art, ranging from organic, nature-inspired forms to sleek geometric structures, all crafted with a level of detail that reflects his technical expertise and aesthetic sensibility.
