Provenance:
Private Collection, Toronto
Notes:
Balance, suspension and gravity are central themes in Damian Moppett's work. Moppett, a skilled artist working in film, drawing, painting, sculpture and photography, uses these various mediums to explore his themes. The artist will often employ one media to examine another, as demonstrated in Untitled (Impure Systems) from 1999. In this series of photographs Moppett has stacked and strategically balanced everyday mass-produced objects to create temporary sculptures which rely on the natural laws of physics in order to stay intact; however, should the pieces fall out of balance, the sculptures would no longer exist outside of these images. A work from Moppett's Impure Systems series is in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa.
