Lot description - from the online catalogue*

Dalia Genovaite Mazeikyte was born in Roviskes, Lithuania. She graduated in 1968 from the Department of Graphics of Vilnius Academy of Arts. Throughout her career, Mazeikyte has explored the expressive and symbolic use of colour in her work. Of her colour abstracts she has said, "Here there is no materiality of form, its painfulness, no shadows, oppressive darkness, only colors, movements, symbolic formations, everything is joyful, there is no sadness, there is no significance or wealth, there is no fear, or pride - All that matters is that flight, that giddiness and joy, that freedom, that inner feeling and vision, becoming life in life and that force that holds the thread of life." Dalia Mazeikyte's work has been widely exhibited in Europe and can be found the permanent collections of the Lithuanian Art Museum (Vilnius), Ciurlionis Museum of Art (Kaunas), Ludwig Museum (Cologne) and the Museum of Ethnocosmology of Lithuania (Kulioniu).
