In 1654 Bega was accepted into the Haarlem Guild of St. Luke. He died in Haarlem in 1664 from the plague. Bega's works can be found in many important collections including the Getty Museum (Malibou), National Gallery of Ireland (Dublin), Petit Palace (Paris), Rijksmuseum (Amsterdam) and Nationalmuseum (Stockholm).
