Notes:
Clarence Keith Bird Is a Cree artist from Saddle Lake First Nation in central Alberta. He was born in Lethbridge, Alberta but was raised in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. At age fifteen Bird was granted a scholarship at the Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon, now the Remai Modern). He begin carving driftwood and cedar around that time, and among his early carving mentors were artist Lloyd Pinay and Dave Kemp. Bird moved to Vancouver, B.C. in 1999 , and began working in soapstone under the guidance of his uncle, Donnie Bird. At this time, Clarence Bird began experimenting with different materials such as marble, Brazilian soapstone, alabaster, and black chloride. Clarence Bird died in 2020 in British Columbia.
