Includes a copy of 1987 receipt from Craddock and Barnard (London UK) stating "The above are original artists' prints over 50 years old". From the Gary Robertson Historical Print Collection (Regina). This piece is also in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum (London).
Notes:
Charles Holryod was born in 1861 in Leeds, England. He studied at the Slade School, University College (London). He began exhibiting etchings at the Society of Painter-Etchers and became a Fellow of the society in 1885. He exhibited paintings and etchings at the Royal Academy, often of religious and historical subjects and portraits. Late in his career he focused on landscape painting and etching. He was the first Keeper of the Tate Gallery (1897-1906) and served as Director of the National Gallery (1906-16). Sir Charles Holroyd died in 1917, in Surrey, UK.
