Provenance:
Private Collection, Toronto.
Notes:
Iconic Canadian artist Cathy Daley has shown in numerous public galleries, museums, artist run centres and commercial galleries since 1980. Her work has been discussed in numerous important publications and she has received awards from the Bertolt Brecht Fund of Berlin, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council. Her work is in countless private collections in Canada, Europe and the United States, as well as such institutions as the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario and the Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery. Her works are often inspired, in a witty, almost ironic manner, by the artist’s ambivalence towards fashion, popular culture, fairy tales, cartoons, mythology and the aesthetics of Hollywood cinema. By playing with body politics and the culturally accepted images of femininity, Daley’s works delve into personal memory and fantasy and support her post-feminist critique on the female form. Her pieces play with the notion of woman as spectacle and serve to challenge the stereotypes and flawed ideals of girlishness and feminine perfection. And while Daley certainly challenges and satirizes these persistent cultural images, she also subtly acknowledges their nostalgic charm and enduring appeal.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
