Notes:
Passionate emotion and lively movement are characteristics of Catherine Young Bates's evocative representational works. Bates is famous for her contemporary rendering of landscapes, done in the studio as well as on site, and the myth of Icarus, who she uses as an allegory for the "environmental overreach of human beings." She uses bold colors of tube oils and pigment sticks on canvas to create single and sectional format paintings. Guest curator at Yvonne L. Bombardier, Monique Nadeau-Saumier explains "... [Bates's] landscapes reveal intangible elements such as wind, breath and motion."

Bates has had a long career as a prolific painter, art critic and poet. She received her education at the University of Toronto, the Maryland Institute, and Oxford.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
