Catherine Macaulay was born in 1949 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, and grew up on a farm northwest of the city. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) and the studied Library Science at the University of Alberta (Edmonton) before working as a librarian for many years in North Battleford and Regina. In the 1980s Macaulay began her devoted study of art and art making, culminating in a 1986 BFA from the University of Saskatchewan. Macaulay tends to work with watercolours, and her subject often involves the close-up landscape.
