Lot description - from the online catalogue*
Robert Billyard was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1943 and grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He a BFA from the University of Manitoba (Winnipeg) in 1967, having studied ceramics under Charlie Scott and painting under Donald Richard Reichert. He then studied at the Claremont Graduate School in California during the California Clay Movement. In 1970 Billiard become Arts and Crafts Project Manager with the Government of the Northwest Territories, overseeing a ceramics development project in Ranklin Inlet, Nunavut. He returned to Saskatoon in 1973 to establish his own ceramics studio, The Slate and Stone Company. His work has been exhibited throughout Saskatchewan, including at the Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon) and Gallery One (Saskatoon).
