Provenance:
Galerie Dresdnere, Montreal
Private Collection, Toronto, 1959
Private Collection, Toronto
Notes:
Galerie Dresdnere was established in Montreal in 1957 and moved to Toronto in the early 1960s. During those years, the gallery featured works by many artists who became prominent in the School of Paris following World War II. The gallery's owner, Simon Dresdnere, traveled often to Paris as well as to Barcelona to purchase works and arrange exhibitions for artists such as Bernard Buffet, Constantin Terechkovitch, Sayed Haider Raza, André Minaux and many others. This outstanding work by Antoni Clavé entered the Dresdnere inventory on June 12th, 1959 and was sold in October of that year. It was later acquired from that collector's estate.
We thank the Archives Antoni Clavé, Paris, for confirming the authenticity of this work.
