Provenance:
Formerly included in the Briercrest College Art Collection. This artwork is accompanied by two 1998 certificates of appraisal, each with a fair market evaluation of $1,000 (Art Seligman Appraisals, Toronto, and Contemporary Values, Toronto).
Notes:
Ann Beam was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1944. She studied art at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and etching and lithography at the Open Studio (Toronto). She later taught at the Art Gallery of Ontario, and managed the Neon Raven Art Gallery on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. In 1979, she married Canadian Ojjibwe artist Carl Beam, and she continued to make art, often in collaboration with her husband and their daughter Among Migwans Beam. Ann Beam's work has been widely exhibited throughout North America, including Glenbow Museum (Calgary), Art Gallery of Ontario (Toronto), Maxwell Museum (Albuquerque NM), Art Gallery of Peterborough, Thunder Bay Art Gallery, and Gardiner Museum (Toronto). Her work can be found in many public collections including Tom Thomson Art Gallery (Owen Sound ON), Art Gallery of Peterborough, Canada First Nations University (Regina), Simon Fraser University (Burnaby) and Royal Ontario Museum (Toronto). Ann Beam continues to live and work in M'chigeeng on Manitoulin Island, Ontario.
