Amidlak (1897-1961) m.
Inukjuak (Port Harrison)
Walrus
ca. mid 1950s
green-black stone and ivory

3 x 5.75 x 4 in, 7.5 x 14.5 x 9.5 cm
Amidlak was one of the first artists singled out for attention by James Houston. In fact, he might actually have been the first artist to make carvings for Houston in 1948,
Condition Notes: according to his son (see Darlene Wight, Early Masters (WAG 2006) p. 45). This walrus is carved with considerable naturalism; the rippling rolls of fat are a nice touch.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
