Provenance:
Private Collection, Quebec
Notes:
Le violoneux is an important example of a series of highly recognizable genre sculptures by Alfred Laliberté, one of Quebec's most prolific and popular early twentieth century artists. In the late twenties and early thirties he produced a series of over 200 sculptures called Les Métiers du Québec (also referred to as Legends, métiers et coutumes) that focussed on the artisanal and craft production of his small Quebec community of Arthabaska. This powerful series of small-scale work functions as a celebratory affirmation of the social traditions of rural Quebec.
Most realised prices include the Buyer's Premium of 18-25%, but not the HST/GST Tax.
