Notes:
Alberto de Castro was born in 1952 in Angola, to Portuguese parents, and studied art in Spain before immigrating to Canada in 1969. He first lived first in Montreal, then Toronto, and found much artistic inspiration in Portuguese and Canadian family traditions and Canadian winter scenes. De Castro was commissioned to paint a mural for the Portuguese Pavilion at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. His work was widely exhibited in Ontario and Quebec, and can be found in the permanent collections of the Ontario Legislature, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, and the Portuguese Consulate in Toronto. Alberto de Castro died in 1995 at the age of forty-two from AIDS related causes.
