John R. Sperry, third Anglican Bishop of the Arctic, lived in Kugluktuk from 1950-69. According to him, Topiak ".was a superior artist. She was one of the original artists and she had the artistic temperament; she was always carving. She had talent far beyond what you might have expected." (Quoted by Dorothy Harley Eber in Images of Justice, McGill-Queen's, 1997, p. 197.
