Waltraud Markgraf was born in Hanover, Germany in 1937 and immigrated to Canada when she was 23 years old. In the National Gallery of Canada's permanent collection. She exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art's first all-Canadian exhibition in 1967, which was intended to show "the vitality, excitement and variety of Canadian art" at the time.
