Vittorio Basaglia was born in 1936 in Venice, Italy. He graduated from art school in Venice then attended Brera Academy of Fine Art, in Milan, from 1954 to 1958, studying with Marino Marini. Basaglia exhibited widely in Italy and beyond from the mid 1950s, including the Rome Quadrennial and the Paris Biennial, and in 1994 the Galleria Internazionale d'Arte Moderna Ca Pesaro (Venice) held a large retrospective of his work. Vittorio Basaglia died in 2005 in Pinzano al Tagliamento, Italy.
