Vincent Luykenaar was born in 1947 in Soestdjik, Holland. He studied medicine at the Erasmus University (Rotterdam) and was a medical offcier with the Royal Dutch Navy before coming to Canada as a flight surgeon with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He eventually settled in Coaldale, Alberta, setting up a medical practice. Named after Vincent Van Gogh, Luykenaar has always been an active artist, specializing in painting and, since 1987, sculpting and bronze casting. Vincent Luykenaar continues to live and work in Coaldale, Alberta.
