Vic Herman was born in 1919 in Fall River, Massachusetts, but grew up in Mexican areas of Los Angeles and became fully immersed in Mexican American culture. As his work focused more and more on Mexican culture, Herman was deliberate in furthering good relations between Mexico and the United States, and in 1961 both countries jointly sponsored his touring exhibition Many Faces of Mexico. His work can be found in many public collections, such as Syracuse University, Mexican Consulate General, Instituto Cultural Mexico-Norteamericano de Jalisco and Consejo Nacional de Turismo (Mexico City).
