Torii Kiyonaga was born in 1752, and began training under Torii Kiyomitsu at age 14. He became a great master of the full colour nishiki-e and of the bijou-ga (images of beautiful women). He also produced Kabuki portraits and shunga (erotic images). His work can be found in many important collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Harvard Art Museums, the British Museum (London) and the Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco.
