Suzanne Duquet received her formal training at the Montreal École des beaux-arts in the 1930s and is considered to be a member of the Quebec Modern Group. She taught for over 30 years at the École des beaux-arts. Although she painted still life and landscape, a central theme in her work was figurative subject matter, which was the theme of her exhibition at Montreal's Museum of Fine Arts. They were mostly women, for as she wrote, "I could not afford to hire models so I would ask my friends to pose for me. It was much more difficult to convince my male friends to assume this role. Moreover, the elegance of women's attitudes, gestures, hair or clothing was a better source of inspiration for my artistic motifs."
